Mersey Burns is an app for iPhone and Android to help doctors quickly and accurately prescribe resuscitation fluids to seriously burned people in emergencies.
Fluids Calculated.
The doctor draws the burned areas on an outline of a person, enters their age, weight and time of burn. The weight can be estimated from the age if it’s not known. A button then shows the doctor the fluids prescription.

Step 1.
Open the Mersey Burns app on your smartphone to reveal the Lund and Browder chart.
Mersey Burns is a digital health application designed to assist doctors in accurately determining the volume of fluid required for patients with serious burns. When individuals suffer severe burns, they experience significant fluid loss through damaged skin. The challenge lies in administering the correct amount of fluid, as too little can be ineffective while too much can be harmful. Mersey Burns simplifies this complex process by providing an intuitive solution that calculates the precise volume of fluid needed based on various factors.
Step 2.
Tap the rotate button to view the side of the body the burn is present on the patient.
One of the key features of our application is the ability to rotate the Lund and Browder chart to the front or back of the patient, enabling doctors to notate burn areas on either side or both. This functionality offers several benefits and enhances the overall intuitiveness of the interface. Accurate documentation is crucial for proper medical assessment, treatment, and follow-up care. The ability to rotate the Lund and Browder chart in our application simplifies the process of documenting burn areas. Doctors can effortlessly mark the affected regions on the chart.
Step 3.
Draw on the chart the burn area which is present on the patient. The TBSA value will reflect in the bottom right corner.
Mersey Burns offers a powerful feature that allows clinicians to draw directly on the screen of their device to mark the areas of the patient's body affected by burns. By using this functionality, clinicians can easily color in the specific regions on the Lund and Browder chart to indicate the presence of burns. This process serves a crucial role in calculating the Total Body Surface Area (TBSA) covered by burns, which is then used to determine the fluid resuscitation rate using the Parkland formula.
Step 4.
See the results of the input metrics immediately. These are stored and can be shared with other clinicians.
